We are all in for a truly extraordinary cinematic experience later this month when Avengers: Infinity War finally hits theaters. After years of build-up, we will get to see all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's far-flung characters united on the big screen for a massive battle. Regardless, as cool as it will be for all of us in the theater, I have to imagine it was just as surreal to be on set with all those actors working together on the film. Marvel Studios' Executive VP of Physical Production Victoria Alonso described what it has been like to see all these Avengers in one place, saying:
I'm not going to lie to you, I cried. You say to yourself, 'Huh?' You have big stars talking about other big stars as in, 'Gasp, is that Michelle Pfeiffer? It is! Oh, was that so-and-so?' It's like their little Hollywood moment, which I found lovely and endearing.
I can't imagine what a geek-out moment that must have been. All of these actors, many of whom haven't worked together before and have varying levels of fame and tenure in the industry, all coming together for this unprecedented project. Even though they are all famous to us, it sounds like some of these actors were still a little starstruck to see some of the people around them. Unlike an industry event or awards show, everyone was together because they are all a part of this grand cinematic comic book universe.
Now if the mention of Michelle Pfeiffer there stood out to you, you're not alone. Michelle Pfeiffer has been cast as the original Wasp Janet Van Dyne in Ant-Man and the Wasp, but does this mention mean that she will be in Infinity War? Well, maybe, but probably not. In her interview with The Hollywood Reporter, it the "when" during filming Victoria Alonso is speaking about isn't definitive. Based on what we know about Ant-Man and the Wasp, it seems unlikely that Janet Van Dyne will show up in this month's Thanos extravaganza. At least part of the story for Ant-Man and the Wasp is expected to deal with the rescue of the lost Janet Van Dyne from the Quantum Realm, so it would be anti-climactic for her to show up prior to her rescue, even if Ant-Man and the Wasp winds up taking place before Infinity War.
Since Infinity War and Avengers 4 filmed back to back, more likely Victoria Alonso was referencing Michelle Pfeiffer possibly being on set for Avengers 4, which in and of itself would be very interesting. Ant-Man and the Wasp may be a bit under-looked this year but it could actually prove to connect to the Avengers films in a very important and interesting way. There is also the possibility that Victoria Alonso was thinking to the day of the 10th anniversary of Marvel Studios class photo that united actors and filmmakers from the studio's first decade. Michelle Pfeiffer was in attendance that day, as were other actors like Brie Larson who have yet to make their proper MCU debut.
