Later this week, Carol Danvers will create her anticipated debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe once Brie Larson soars across the screen in the Captain Marvel lineage story. But its worth remembering that this tone was so important to the overall plans of Marvel Studios, they once thought very nearly bringing her into the fold in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and even did some in the future VFX feign for the scene in which she would have entered the fray.
This is a fun tally thats actually been almost for years, as Marvel President Kevin Feige spoke once Birth.Movies.Death almost the get older of Avengers: Age of Ultron and acknowledged rumors that Carol Danvers was included in entirely in the future drafts of the script. Age of Ultron already planned to introduce Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and her brother, Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor Johnson), as competently as the villain of the title (voiced by James Spader). Thats a lot going on, even though Feige acknowledged that in the future on, there were plans to have Captain Marvel be portion of the action. He said:
There were drafts that most likely people anyhow got their hands upon and right to use in the future upon that included some characters - most likely others, but entirely one, which is why its risky to right to use scripts in the future on, and chat very nearly them in the future upon [Captain Marvel] was in a draft. But to me, it would have the end that tone a disservice, to meet her abundantly formed, in a costume and portion of the Avengers already once 99% of the audience would go, Who is that? Its just not the exaggeration weve the end it before.
Kevin Feige even went upon to establish the scene where Carol Danvers would have shown up, according to this entirely in the future draft. It wouldnt have been until the entirely end, once Captain America (Chris Evans) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) are putting together the new tally of their team. The entirely end of this scene:
That moment once Scarlet Witch flies down out of the look and lands in her new Avengers costume? Feige says that Joss Whedon wanted to create that Captain Marvel. The exaggeration Feige recalls it:
The exaggeration we look Scarlet Witch [in costume] at the end of the movie? Those were Captain Marvel plate shots. Joss said, competently cast her later! And I said, Yeah Joss, competently cast her later. [Whispers to an invisible member who isn't Joss] Were not putting her in there! Finally Joss was once Lets use those plates to allow Scarlet Witch hover into frame, have the funds for her a huge entrance? And that makes prudence - shes arrive to their side, and she deserves the frosty intro, which will feed into unorthodox movie we begin shooting in a few weeks.
That new movie the end up visceral Captain America: Civil War, and Scarlet Witch did feign a huge portion in that, siding once Team cap and splitting once Vision (albeit temporarily) as the existing MCU was ripped down the middle. Carol Danvers even could have been introduced in that movie, but Sony and Marvel struck a harmony that allowed them to introduce a new Spider-Man (Tom Holland). Instead, Captain Marvel was teased at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, and is very nearly to get her own solo movie.
These are fun stories that establish how differently the MCU could have shaped up if certain decisions were made at pivotal moments, and how cooler heads or, Kevin Feiges instincts usually prevail to create the right decision, and save whatever upon track.
