Any '90s children are au fait subsequently the fact that the Looney Tunes adore basketball, but they just about tried their hands at skateboarding. benefit skating legend Tony Hawk has revealed that he was subsequently approached to star in a song Jam sequel/spin-off called Skate Jam that would have had him shredding (that's skateboarding, right?) the halfpipe next to Bugs Bunny.
In 2003, I was requested to meet subsequently Warner Brothers approximately feign a film subsequently the Looney Tunes characters that was tentatively titled Skate Jam. Their plan was to bring back Bugs, Taz, etc into the cinema subsequently a current pardon called back In feign and later unexpectedly start committed upon my project.
In 1996, Warner Bros. released song Jam, which featured Michael Jordan teaming occurring subsequently the Looney Tunes to feign a basketball game against aliens for that reason that they wouldn't be enslaved at an intergalactic theme park. It's '90s perfection, and apparently, a sequel approximately skateboarding was upon the table.
As Tony Hawk recounts upon Instagram, he was approached by Warner Bros. in 2003 approximately feign a skateboarding checking account of song Jam tentatively called Skate Jam. A extra live-action movie, Looney Tunes: back in Action, was approximately to pardon in theaters, and Warner was hoping to capitalize upon the hype of pairing Daffy Duck subsequently Brendan Fraser.
I was approximately to leave for a skate vacation in Australia for that reason they met me at that iconic dome-shaped restaurant in the center of LAX past my flight that evening. They were SERIOUS. We talked approximately storylines and shooting schedules, and they casually mentioned that I would get $1 million occurring tummy for signing on. I flew to Sydney that night subsequently a sense of wonder and excitement; I had never met subsequently Hollywood heads and felt for that reason clear approximately something happening.
After the meeting, Hawk felt super confident that the movie was going to happen. Plus, he would have gotten $1 million occurring front, for that reason yeah, he essentially was hoping this event was going to happen. Well, it's 2019 and there's no movie where Porky Pig does a kickflip, for that reason what happened?
During my week-long trip, back In feign was released in theaters and bombed. By the mature I got home, Skate Jam had been "indefinitely postponed" and I never heard approximately it again. I still think it would have been a hit subsequently skateboarding's popularity at the time, and the worship children (now teenage adults) had for song Jam.
In the mature span of one week, Warner Bros. confidence plummeted. back in feign bombed ($9.3 million inauguration weekend) and Tony Hawk never heard anything approximately Skate Jam ever again.
With his Instagram post, telling this story, Tony Hawk shared the follow drawing, which he said was supreme to him at a skate demo that Looney Tunes sponsored years past the movie talks began. As he noted, Marvin is for that reason upon a hoverboard:
Over 10 years later, Tony Hawk is still bummed that the movie never happened, figuring it would have been a success. Skateboarding was essentially well-liked at the mature and those who loved song Jam would likely be on fire approximately a sequel. As far away as the latter goes, we know that's still mostly the case. Warner Bros. has been trying to get song Jam 2 off the pitch subsequently Lebron James for a few years now.
I would certainly much subsequently to see how Skate Jam would have turned out, but sadly, it's just one of the great movies that was never intended to be. Damn you, Looney Tunes: back in Action.
